アイオワ州アンケニーのナインマイル・ロードで大学生リッチが目に見えない何かに惨殺されたという記事に興味を持ったサムとディーンは、リッチが住んでいた男子寮に入り聞き込みを開始する。事件当夜、リッチといたのは大学の女子寮に住む牧師の娘ローリだった。さっそくローリと接触するサム。リッチは目に見えないものに殺され逆さ吊りにされたらしい。逆さ吊りという手口からフックマンの仕業と推理したサムは、大学の図書館で過去の犯罪記録を調べる。
