地球を探す鍵となる『獅子の星雲』へギャラクティカより先に着いたものの、謎の疫病に冒されたことで放棄されるに至ったサイロンの調査船（ベーススター）。アダマは、宇宙を漂うこのベーススターを調べるべく、その艦内へリー率いる海兵隊を送り込む。一方、バルターが囚われているベーススターでは、バルターが疫病の一件に絡んでいたと疑うディアナによって彼への執拗な拷問が行われる。
