オクラホマシティにて、まず老人が撲殺され、次に少女２人が頸動脈を切られて死亡。殺害手口は違うが、どちらも両目をえぐり取られていた。眼球をえぐるという行為に及ぶ犯人はたいてい精神が破綻しており、犯行が無秩序で次第に粗雑になっていくのが常識だが、この犯人は回を重ねるごとに手口が洗練されていく。明らかに矛盾する状況に、犯人像を絞り込めずＢＡＵは困惑する。
