ブレディはジャックポットくじで3000万ドルを当てたが、離婚協議中の妻に半分もっていかれることを嫌い、彼女に気づかれることなく当選金を受け取れないか叔父のラマーに相談する。しかし、その後ブレディが自宅の浴槽で死んでいるのを発見される。これは事故か事件か……。この難問にコロンボが挑んでいく。
