世界的な医学者アナ・マリア・マルテスは、現在は合衆国に帰化して重要な研究に打ち込み、近くその結果が現れるところまでこぎつけていた。そんな矢先、母国からある鉱山に発生した病気のことで助言を得たいと申し込まれ長年離れていた母国の島へやって来るが、そこで政府より、アメリカを捨てて母国において研究を続けないかという要請を受ける。苦い思い出しかない母国に何の未練もない彼女はその申し出を断るが、半ば強制的にパスポートを取り上げられ帰国できないようにされてしまう。[ 日本初放送当時 第22話 ]
