一度はどん底に突き落とされた「S.W.A.T.」ファンに嬉しい朗報だ。
5月16日、米CBSでの放送をもって「S.W.A.T.」は最終回を迎えた。今回は2年前のようなことは起こらない。2023年、CBSによって打ち切りを宣告されていた「S.W.A.T.」は、多くのファンがSNSで継続を訴えたことで復活したという経緯があったのだ。
それから2シーズンが過ぎたシーズン8。前回と同様に、人気シリーズ「S.W.A.T.」のライセンス料を巡り、CBS、ソニーを含めた放送・製作サイドの3社は交渉のテーブルについた。3社は同意に至ることなく「S.W.A.T.」は8シーズンで幕を閉じることとなった。
しかし、ここからがドラマの始まりだった。「S.W.A.T.」最終回の放送日から2日後の5月18日、ソニーがスピンオフとなる「S.W.A.T. Exiles(原題)」の製作を発表した。主役はもちろんシェマー・ムーア演じるダニエル・"ホンドー"・ハレルソン、現時点で10話が製作予定だという。
ソニーは「過去8シーズンに渡り、シリーズの成功に尽力してくれた200名あまりのスタッフの雇用を守るため」とスピンオフ製作を決めた理由を発表。主演のシェマーは、声明文の中で「『S.W.A.T.』の全8シーズンは壮大で忘れられない経験となりました。僕らは逆境を乗り越え、世界中の皆さんを魅了し続けました。これからは新しい『S.W.A.T. Exiles』で次なる展開を迎えることに興奮しています。僕は『S.W.A.T.』の世界で生き続けます。スリリングなアクション、ハートフルなドラマをお楽しみください。僕らは絶対屈しません!」と決意を伝えた。
願ってもない一報にファンもエキサイト。SNSには「月に上りつめたような気分」「今の気持ちを言葉にできない」「最高!!」などの声であふれている。
ドラマ以上にドラマチック。これほどまでにファンを一喜一憂させるTVシリーズも滅多に無い。シェマーが再び率いる「S.W.A.T. Exiles」、世界中のファンがその興奮と感動を楽しみに待っている。
