実在のカリスマ・プロデューサー、ラリー・デイヴィッドの揉め事まみれの日常を自らが演じるユニークでシニカルなフェイク・ドキュメンタリー･コメディ。
ラリーは、メル・ブルックスに抜擢され舞台「プロデューサーズ」の主役を務めることになった。相手役のベン・スティラーが2週間遅れで自分の誕生日パーティーを開くことになり、「プロデューサーズ」の関係者も招待される。ラリーは最初から「2週間遅れ」という事で「誕生日でもないのにパーティーを開くのはおかしい」と文句。「プレゼントは持ってこなくていい」と言われたのを真に受け手ぶらで行くと、他の客は全員持ってきているし、みんなが歌ったハッピーバースデーの歌を1人歌わず、ベンに睨まれる。

1968年にメル・ブルックスが監督デビューを果たした映画「プロデューサーズ」はアカデミー脚本賞を受賞。2001年からブロードウェイでミュージカルとしてネイサン・レイン、マシュー・ブロデリックのW主演で上演＆大ヒットを記録。トニー賞作品賞を含む最多12部門を独占受賞。2005年にはそのミュージカル版が映画化された。ミュージカル版の演出＆振付を担当したスーザン･ストローマンが監督。
