FBIの内部監査が終了し、リーに対するエルの発砲は正当防衛として認められた。だがホッチはエルに精神鑑定を受けるよう命じ、それに憤慨したエルは、鑑定をすっぽかし翌朝無断欠勤する。折しもテキサス州オゾナで子供ばかり狙った殺人事件が発生し、BAUが捜査協力に向かうことになるが、ギデオンはエルを捜すために残るようホッチに告げる。
子供が闇を恐れるのは無理もない。大人が光を恐れる時、本当の悲劇が訪れる。
