「フォーリング スカイズ」「ER 緊急救命室」のノア・ワイリーが、「Who Do You Think You Are?（原題）」に出演した。同番組は、スターの家系図からスター自身も知らなかった先祖たちの史実を探るリアリティーショー。
ノアが興味を持っていた先祖は、高祖父（ひいひいおじいちゃん）のジョン・H・ミルズ氏。ワイリー一族では、このミルズ氏が若い頃、南北戦争への参加を避けるため、赤の他人にお金を払い、代わりに出征してもらったという話が、代々受け継がれているという。もちろん、一族にとって、少しばかり残念な話ではある。
しかし、ワイリー一族の歴史をじっくりと掘り下げた番組の調査で、新しい事実が判明したのだ。
番組内で、南北戦争前にミルズ氏が住んでいたというバトンルージュへ向かう途中、ノアは南北戦争に詳しい歴史家、レスリー・ゴードン氏と面会。そこでゴードン氏が提示した文書が、ノアがこれまで聞かされてきた一族の歴史を変えた。
その文書には、1862年3月頃から90日の間、ミルズ氏が南部連合国の陸軍兵士として従軍した記録が記されており、同年4月にテネシー州で勃発した「シャイローの戦い」に出征したことまで明らかになったのだ。
シャイローの戦いといえば、南北戦争初期に行われ、多くの死傷兵を出した過酷な戦いとして知られている。これまで、戦争から逃げたと、一族の間で語り継がれていた高祖父が、実は南軍の兵士として戦ったことが分かったのだ。
調査を終え、ノアは「事実が分かって、爽快な気分だよ。高祖父は戦っていたんだからね」と大満足の様子。
「フォーリング スカイズ」では、エイリアンと戦う人間軍“レジスタンス”のリーダー的存在、トム・メイソン役を演じたノア。俳優として、戦う男のメンタリティーは学んでいる。長年の汚名を晴らした高祖父を、ノアは誇りに感じているようだ。
