クリスマスシーズンが到来する中、郊外に住む典型的中流家庭のアップルバウム家がチャンスたちのもとへ護衛の依頼にやって来る。ホクストン・モス製薬に勤める夫のリチャードが新薬の違法性を告発する文書を食品医薬品局に送った直後、上司ミーチェムから嫌がらせを受ける日々の中、見知らぬ男たちに車を追突されて命を狙われたが、警察がまともにとりあってくれないので依頼に来たのだ。
