著書のプロモーションのため、休暇を取ってオハイオ州クリーヴランドの書店を訪れたロッシはゾーイという若い娘から声をかけられる。ロッシの大ファンを名乗り犯罪学を学んでいるという彼女は、クリーヴランドに現在シリアルキラーが存在すると告げる。ロッシはゾーイの話をまともに受け取らず名刺だけ渡し無責任な激励だけして追い払うが……。
