米CBSは放送中の「クリミナル・マインド」について、来シーズン（シーズン１２）も継続して放送すると発表した。
人気番組を多数抱えるCBSは、先行して「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」、「NCIS ネイビー犯罪捜査班」、「SCORPION／スコーピオン」など11番組の継続を発表済み。新シリーズ以外では、「クリミナル・マインド」は数少ない未決定組の一つだった。
米エンタメサイトは、継続決定が遅れたのは視聴者数が理由ではないと断言。現行シーズンである、「クリミナル・マインド」シーズン１１の視聴者数は一話当たり平均1200万人で、CBSドラマの中でトップ2の好成績だ。裏番組には、2015年1月からスタートした大ヒットドラマ「Empire 成功の代償」があるが、「クリミナル・マインド」視聴者数・視聴率の推移にはほぼ影響が見られないという。他番組に心移することのない、「クリミナル・マインド」が抱える熱心なファン層の証明といえるだろう。
視聴者数が問題でないとすれば、CBSを悩ませるのはコスト面。CBSにとって、「クリミナル・マインド」は非常に制作費のかかる番組なのだとか。同番組はABCスタジオとCBS TVスタジオの共同制作だが、メインは前者。CBS TVスタジオが実質的な制作費を支払う一方で、ABCスタジオが国際市場への販売権などTV番組が生み出す利益のおいしい部分を回収しているのだという。CBSにとっては、人気はあるが、儲けの少ない番組にジレンマを感じながらの継続決定だったようだ。
「クリミナル・マインド」の発表後、シーズン２以上のCBSドラマの中で唯一、来シーズンの放送が未定だった「CSI：サイバー」は、5月12日、打ち切りが明らかになっている。
