米TVネットワークのCBSが放送中の人気TVドラマシリーズ「NCIS ネイビー犯罪捜査班」を、さらに2シーズン継続し、シーズン15まで放送すると発表した。併せて製作総指揮を兼ねる主演のマーク・ハーモンの出演継続も決定した。
現在、米国では「NCIS ネイビー犯罪捜査班」シーズン13を放送中。同シーズンは毎話平均2000万人以上の視聴者を集め、今なお視聴者数ではドラマシリーズの首位を独走するお化け番組だ。
CBSエンターテイメント社長のグレン・ゲラー氏は声明文の中で「『NCIS ネイビー犯罪捜査班』は13シーズン、300話を超えてなお、世界的規模において高い地位を保ち続けています」とコメント。同番組は、モンテカルロ・テレビ祭でも「世界で最も視聴されているドラマシリーズ」と評されるなど、米国外での人気も証明ずみだ。
シーズン15以降の継続も十分可能性のある「NCIS ネイビー犯罪捜査班」だが、不安材料がないわけではない。番組スタート当初からのオリジナルキャスト、マイケル・ウェザリーが現シーズンで降板決定。番組のムードメーカーの降板は少なからず痛手となりそうなのだ。
一方、他の人気オリジナルキャスト（ポーリー・ペレット、デヴィッド・マッカラム）はまだまだ健在。マイケルが去った後も、マークと共に「NCIS ネイビー犯罪捜査班」＝“全世界ナンバーワン・ドラマ”の座堅守に全力を注ぐ。
