海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.488　 「アフェア 情事の行方」ジョシュア・ジャクソン、父親になって変わった役選び

「アフェア 情事の行方」で、アリソン（ルース・ウィルソン）の元夫コール・ロックハート役を演じるジョシュア・ジャクソンが、米エンタメサイトの取材に答え、同役について意外な発言をしているという。
 
「今、『アフェア 情事の行方』の出演をオファーされたら、引き受けることはないだろう」
 
「アフェア 情事の行方」は、未成年の視聴が制限されるTV-MA作品（日本ではR15＋相当）。その過激な演出に参ってしまったわけではない、実はジョシュアが父親になったことが影響しているらしいのだ。 ジョシュアが演じたコールは、４歳だった息子を亡くした父親という設定。プライベートでも、ジョシュアは2018年に結婚した英女優のジョディ・ターナー＝スミスとの間に、一人娘を授かった父親なのである。 「実際に父親になる前に撮影していて良かったよ。撮影の時点では（我が子を失うことは）想像でしかなかったからね」 「アフェア 情事の行方」撮影時、まだジョシュアは独身。我が子を失った父親を演じるために、自分の内に潜む感情を探し出さなくてはならなかった。 しかし、現実に父親となり、その感情はあまりにも身近なものとなった。そんな悲しい男の心の内を、役とはいえ味わうのはツラすぎるというのだ。
 
父親になったこと、それはジョシュアを「ありとあらゆる方向で変えた」という。「100％変わったよ。仕事においても、プライベートにおいてもね。家族が僕の人生に真ん中にある。そう思って毎日過ごすのが、本当にハッピーなのさ」 永遠のやんちゃ坊主に見えたジョシュアはもういない。父親となったジョシュアが、これからどんな役を選び、演じるのか楽しみにしたいものだ。
