ニューハンプシャー州マンチェスターで９日間に３人の女性が姿を消す。いずれも乳児の母親で、現場には赤ちゃんが置き去りにされていた。 やがて最初の２人の遺体が発見される。胸のあたりを激しく何度も刺されたことによる失血死だが、殺害後血は拭き取られ、血のついた衣類は洗濯、髪は梳かされ化粧を施されていた。
