「エレメンタリー ホームズ & ワトソン in NY」に出演中の女優オフィリア・ラヴィボンドが、英オンライン・メディアのインタビューに答え、女優の役について「バカにしないで！」と日頃の思いをぶちまけた。
「女優だからって、（男優に比べ）いい役がとても少ないの。すごく不満に思ってる」と、役について語り始めると、一気に戦闘モードに突入するオフィリア。「バカにしないでほしいわ。私にペニスが付いていないからって、興味深い役ができないっていうの？」
少々過激な表現も、それだけ不満が大きいということ。現状を変えるため、機会があるごとに声を上げている。
「私たちにできるのは、こうして話し続けること、問題提起し続けること、そして変えようと努力すること。とにかく文句を言い続けなきゃダメなのよ」
オフィリアが望む“興味深い”役とは、これまで彼女自身が舞台で演じてきたような役。オフィリアは、アマチュア時代から劇団に所属し、数々の舞台を経験してきた。
「舞台ではさまざまな興味深い役を演じてきたわ。力強く、かつフェミニストでありダイナミックな役。それこそが魅力的に思えるのよ」
しかし、オフィリアといえば、「エレメンタリー ホームズ & ワトソン in NY」でホームズを尊敬するキティ・ウィンター役を熱演、大ヒット映画『ガーディアンズ・オブ・ギャラクシー』にも出演した。地元・英国では数々のTVドラマにレギュラー出演を重ねており、近年、仕事の絶えない女優の一人になっている。
オフィリア自身も、状況は少しずつ変わっていることを認めている。
「最近は、変わってきたのを実感しているわ。女優が主演で、おもしろい役を演じている映画も出てきた。状況は良くなっていると確信している」
実力派だけに、役に対して、どん欲なのは当然か。時代が変わりつつある今、目の離せない女優であることは間違いなさそうだ。
