米CBSで放送がスタートする「SCORPION／スコーピオン」シーズン4で、なんと、出演者たちが歌い踊るミュージカル・シーンが投入されることが分かった。
ミュージカル・シーンが投入されるのは冒頭で、ウォルター（エリス・ガベル）、ペイジ（キャサリン・マクフィー）をはじめ、おなじみ天才集団が勢ぞろいしている。
このシーンの撮影を「ここしばらくで、一番楽しい思い出になった」と喜んだのは、エリス。バンド経験もあり、歌には自信を持っている。エリスは、自慢のノドを使って、普段とは全く異なるシーンの撮影を目いっぱい楽しんだらしい。
「同じキャラクターを演じていると、どんなに興味深くても、共演者やスタッフが素晴らしくて脚本が良くても、アーティストとしては、ついつい何か違うことをやってみたくなるものだ」とは、エリスの本音。
シルヴェスター（アリ・スティダム）、トビー（エディ・ケイ・トーマス）やハッピー（ジェイディン・ウォン）もミュージカル経験者で、おそらく気持ちはエリスと同じ。シーズン４を迎え、中堅ドラマとなった今だからこそ、このミュージカル・シーンは刺激となったことだろう。
しかし、皆がノリノリだった撮影をガチガチに緊張して臨んだキャストが一人。ケイブ役のロバート・パトリックだ。「（ミュージカルを）やったことがなかったからね、頑張ったよ」と撮影時の苦労を振り返る。「番組にとっては良いことだと思う」と、ベテランらしい忖度で、初めてのミュージカル・シーンに挑んだようだ。
「SCORPION／スコーピオン」といえば、天才集団が最新テクノロジーと頭脳を駆使し、アクションを交えて難事件を解決するドラマ。番組を楽しみにしている視聴者にとってもミュージカル・シーンはちょっぴり意外だろう。しかし、その鍵は、シーズン３のフィナーレにあった。製作側は、フィナーレの展開を視聴者に思い出してほしくて、ミュージカル・シーンを投入したのだとか。
キャスト、スタッフたちの遊び心も楽しい、「SCORPION／スコーピオン」。これからも視聴者を喜ばせるサプライズが期待できそうだ。
