米では今秋からシーズン１２がスタートする超常現象アクション・ドラマシリーズ「スーパーナチュラル」。放送する米TVネットワークThe CWのシリーズ長寿記録は、ファミリードラマの「7th Heaven」（2007年終了）と「スーパーナチュラル」の持つ１１シーズンだが、新シーズンの開始に伴い「スーパーナチュラル」は、単独で記録を更新してゆくことになる。
さらに、The CW社長のマーク・ペドウィッツが力強い後押し発言だ。「ジャレッド（・パダレッキ）とジェンセン（・アクレス）は、僕の知る限り、とてもハッピーなんだ」と、主演の二人が番組に満足していると明かす。彼らがご機嫌なのは、ファンに愛されているからだけではない。番組の質がとても安定しているからだ。ペドウィッツ社長も製作陣の努力を称えている。「番組のストーリー展開に、僕は興奮を抑えることができないよ。素晴らしい！視聴率をこのまま維持できれば、僕が社長の椅子から降りた後も、番組は続くだろうね」
自虐を含みつつ、社長自ら「スーパーナチュラル」のロングラン化を断言。しかし、どん欲な社長は一度失敗した“二匹目のどじょう”にまだまだ未練を隠さない。「スーパーナチュラル」のスピンオフ製作は、「今も最優先事項」なのだと言う。
「スーパーナチュラル」のスピンオフは、かつてシーズン９で本格化。一度はパイロット版「Supernatural : Bloodlines」が製作・放送されたものの、ファンの評判は今ひとつだった。以降、製作に着手されることはなかったのだ。
それでも「（次のスピンオフの）準備ができたら、喜んで話を進めるつもりだ」とペドウィッツ社長。ロングラン化にスピンオフ。シーズンを重ねて「スーパーナチュラル」は、The CWの頼れるエースとして不動の位置を固めている。
