スパドラ！最新ＵＳレポート Vol.434：「スタートレック」新作映画でスールーが同性愛者なのは「遺憾」と、ジョージ・タケイ　その発言にザッカリー・クイントは「がっかりだ」と失望を表明

「スタートレック」シリーズ、「HEROES／ヒーローズ」などで知られる米国の日系人俳優ジョージ・タケイが、過去に「スタートレック」で自らが演じたキャラクター“スールー”の設定変更に「遺憾」の意を表した。そしてその「遺憾」をめぐり、今度はザッカリー・クイント（「HEROES／ヒーローズ」）が失望を表明、波紋を広げている。

事の発端は、2009年の映画『スタートレック』から、“スールー”役を演じているジョン・チョーが、新作映画『スタートレック BEYOND』で“スールー”が同性愛者として描かれると明かしたこと。自らも同性愛者であるとカミングアウトしているジョージはメディアの取材に対し、「同性愛者のキャラクターが登場するのは嬉しいが、（『スタートレック』シリーズ・クリエーターのジーン・ロッデンベリーが熟考して生み出したキャラクターを変えてしまったのは、遺憾だ」と述べた。

それにかみついたのが、ザッカリー・クイントだ。やはり、同性愛者であることをカミングアウトしているザッカリーには、「HEROES／ヒーローズ」で共演した仲間とはいえ、ジョージの発言が理解できなかったようだ。「LGBT（性的少数者）の一人として、ジョージが遺憾だということに、僕はがっかりしている」とコメント。「ジョージが長年演じてきたキャラクターだし、思い入れがあるのもよく分かる。だけど、僕らは2009年の映画で別の宇宙空間を創り上げたわけだからね…」と、同性愛者である“スールー”は、ジョージの演じた“スールー”と同一ではないと強調した。

そもそも、“スールー”を同性愛者に新しく設定したのは、ジョージの「スタートレック」に対する功績とLGBT活動に対する敬意も含まれているとも伝えられている。

それでも苦心して作り上げた“スールー”だけに、誰にもいじってほしくないのが、ジョージの本音なのだろうか？一方、 同性愛者の“スールー”を演じるジョンは、賛同はしていないものの、ジョージの意見にも理解を示していると言う。
