スパドラ！最新ＵＳレポート Vol.428：「GRIMM／グリム」の製作総指揮者が語る、キャスティング秘話　「最も難しいのは20代後半の俳優を探すこと」

grimm_yr4_us250_0621.jpgグリム童話をモチーフに、ダークファンタジーの世界をちょっぴりコメディの要素でいろどる、米NBCのドラマシリーズ「GRIMM／グリム」。米国ではシーズン５の放送が終了、3月には第100話目のエピソードを放送し、名実ともに人気シリーズの仲間入りだ。節目のシーズンを終え、製作総指揮者のデヴィッド・グリーンウォルトとジム・カウフが、難航したキャスティング秘話を明かしている。

グリーンウォルトらにとって、最も困難を極めたのが主役のニック探しだったという。「テレビ番組のキャスティングで、最も難しいのが20代後半で最高にチャーミングな俳優を探すことなんだ。それに当てはまる人材は、たいていの場合、すでに映画スターになっていておかしくないからね」。

のちにニック役を演じることになるデヴィッドに出会うまでに50～60人の俳優をオーディションしたものの、彼らのイメージする人材を見つけることができなかった。そこで同じ製作総指揮者のトッド・ミルナーが紹介したのが、MTVのリアリティーショーで注目を集めていたデヴィッドだった。デヴィッドは、当時ミルナーがプロデューサーを務めていたシットコム「Hot in Cleveland」にゲスト出演したのだった。

「デヴィッドにはグリムの世界にのめり込んでしまいそうな、若くて、粗削りな素質を感じた。そして彼は、人に好感を与える真面目さも併せ持っている」（グリーンウォルト）

そして「GRIMM／グリム」が大抜擢したもう一人の若手スターが、シーズン３から登場したトラブル役のジャクリーン・トボー二。すでに完成されていた「GRIMM／グリム」の世界に新しいスターを投入したのには理由があった。スピンオフ版製作の話があったというのだ。「だから僕らは、グリムの名前にふさわしい、精神的にも肉体的にも、タフな若い女優を探したんだ」とグリーンウォルト。残念ながら、スピンオフ版の話は立ち消えとなり、そのままジャクリーンは本家「GRIMM／グリム」のレギュラーに収まることになったのだ。

デヴィッドやジャクリーンら、カリスマチック性を持つ若手スターに、サイラス・ウェイア・ミッチェル、レジー・リー（ともに「プリズン・ブレイク」）らすでにTVドラマで実力は証明済みのベテラン勢を加え、ディープな魅力を生む「GRIMM／グリム」の世界。これからどんな広がりを見せてくれるのか楽しみだ。
