「SCORPION／スコーピオン」のキャサリン・マクフィーといえば、「アメリカン・アイドル」シーズン５で準優勝、「SMASH／スマッシュ」ではミュージカルスタ―を目指す若手女優を演じるなど、歌、演技に活躍する人気者。輝くような美貌も彼女の魅力だ。そんなキャサリンが、早朝の空港で出会った、あるスーパースターにド緊張した思い出を語っている。
キャサリンをド緊張させたそのスーパースターとは、キム・カーダシアン。米リアリティーショーでその華やかな私生活を披露して人気となり、ヒップホップ・アーティスト、カニエ・ウェストと結婚したことでカリスマ性を高めた。女優でも歌手でもないが、知名度は抜群だ。
キャサリンがキムを見かけたのは、空港のラウンジ。同じ早朝便を利用したのだ。「ラウンジで待っていた時、キムを見かけたの。私は（オーマイガッド、キム・カーダシアンじゃない！）って興奮よ。前にも会ったことはあるんだけど、もう普通のファンみたいになっちゃった。私って、ホント、バカだわ」
機内では、早朝便だけに誰もしゃべる人はおらず、静かに過ごした。そして着陸してからが、さらにひと波乱だった。「その飛行機には（モデルの）リリー・オルドリッジも乗っていたの。キムがリリーに挨拶してるのを見て、また私は尻ごみしてしまった。でもキムと目が合ったら、彼女が『ハイ、キャット（キャサリンの愛称）』と声を掛けてくれたのよ！私は（わー、彼女は私の名前を知ってる）って思った。だけど、それだけ。それで終わりよ。私は緊張しすぎて何も言えなかったの」
キムを前に、少女のように緊張したキャサリン。こんな一般人らしいエピソードも彼女に親しみやすさを感じさせる所以だろう。
