「HEROES REBORN／ヒーローズ・リボーン」「CHUCK／チャック」のザッカリー・リーヴァイが主演する、ブロードウェー・ミュージカル「She Loves Me」の上演延長が決定した。2月19日からプレビュー公演がスタートした同ミュージカルは、当初6月5日に終了する予定だったが、好評のため、7月10日まで延長されるという。
ヒットミュージカルの証となる上演延長を受け、主役の一人、ジョージ役を好演するザッカリーがインタビューに答えている。
「（舞台では）役者／エンターテイナーと観客が一体になれると信じている」とミュージカルの楽しみを語るザッカリー。「僕は舞台で物を売ってるわけじゃない。絵画や彫刻と同じ、肉体を使った芸術の鑑賞経験を売っているんだ。観客が持ち帰るのは、その鑑賞経験だけじゃない。鑑賞した場所はあのブロードウェーだよ、そこが肝心だ」
6歳の時に、家族を楽しませることの喜びを知り、パフォーマーになりたいと決心したと語るザッカリー。いつも歌や物まねで人を笑わせ、家族からは「お前にはオフ・スイッチがないんだね」と言われていたのだとか。
ザッカリーの出演作は、ミュージカルに加え、TV「HEROES REBORN／ヒーローズ・リボーン」「CHUCK／チャック」、映画『マイティ・ソー／ダーク・ワールド』、アニメの声の出演『塔の上のラプンツェル』など。家族を楽しませていた少年は、芸達者なエンターテイナーに成長した。多才ゆえの悩みか、ザッカリーは今の段階では何が好きか決められないという。
「今の僕には無理だね。もし僕が結婚して子供がいたとしたら、TVで安定した収入を得られるのは魅力的だろう。子供たちを良い学校や大学に通わせることができるから。そうじゃなければ、その時どきの自分に共鳴した仕事を選ぶだけだ。続けてブロードウェー・ミュージカルをやってもいいし、映画やTVでも嬉しいね。もし興味の沸く仕事がなかったら、僕は喜んで一か月の休みを取り、ペルー旅行に出かけるよ」
TVで人気者となったザッカリーだが、それでも今は舞台にとりつかれているらしい。「これだけは言っておこう、生の舞台を超える興奮はどこにもない。僕は死ぬまで舞台に立つのを止めないよ」
