米大手エンタメ業界誌のザ・ハリウッド・リポーターが、今年、最も活躍した製作者を選ぶ「プロデューサー・オブ・ザ・イヤー」に、「ブラックリスト」製作総指揮者（エグゼクティブ・プロデューサー）の一人、ジョン・デイヴィスを選出した。
61歳のデイヴィスは、ハリウッドで最も多作なプロデューサーの一人。手掛けた作品は100を超え、現在も、シーズン３を放送中の「ブラックリスト」に加え、2015年だけで2つの新TVシリーズ（「The Player」「Dr. Ken」）、そして映画ではアカデミー賞の有力候補と言われるジェニファー・ローレンス主演の『Joy』、ガイ・リッチ―監督の『コードネーム U.N.C.L.E.』など3作品にプロデューサーとして名を連ねている。
『プレデター』『ザ・ファーム／法律事務所』『ウォーターワールド』など映画プロデューサーとして成功を収めてきたデイヴィス、TVシリーズ製作には躊躇していたという。「（TVシリーズは）良いパイロット版を見つけるのが難しいんだ。それをTV局に放送してもらうのも難しい。そしてたとえ放送されたとしても、80％の番組は失敗するんだからね。大変なんだよ」
幸運にも最初に手掛けたTVシリーズ「ブラックリスト」が大ヒット。その成功におごることなく、今も手綱を引き締める気持ちは忘れていない。「どんなTV番組でも、本当に成功といえるのは、6、7年続いてからだと思っている。そのためには、刺激的なストーリーを次々生み出して、長続きさせないといけないんだ」。
映画のペースに慣れたデイヴィスにとっては、TVの忙しいスケジュールは頭痛の種だ。「映画なら、一つの作品を3年、4年、5年、6年かけて作るわけだけど、TVシリーズは1年で22話も作らなきゃならない。それに僕らは（TVシリーズの）パイロット版をたった3日間で編集しているんだ。とても厳しいスケジュールだった『Joy』でさえ、編集だけで4、5ヶ月もかけたのにね」
「ブラックリスト」の大ヒットで、密かにスピンオフも噂されている。しかしベテランプロデューサーは慎重だ。「まだ言える段階にない」と、明言を避けている。
