米競馬の祭典ブリーダーズカップが、10月31日から2日間、ロサンゼルス郊外のサンタアニータ競馬場にて開催された。世界有数の競馬レースとして知られるブリーダーズカップには、シルベスター・スタローン、エリザベス・バンクスらハリウッドのセレブたちも多数来場、レースに華を添えた。
本国オーストラリア時代から馬には興味があったという、サイモン・ベイカー（「メンタリスト」）も同競馬場に来場した。サイモンはしばしば主要な競馬レースに顔を見せる、馬好きセレブの一人。2012年からサイモンがアンバサダーを務める、高級時計メーカー、ロンジンは、今年のブリーダーズカップを含む、多くの競馬レースのスポンサーでもある。
「ロンジンとお付き合いを始めてから、世界中の競馬場を訪問しています。ロイヤルアスコット（英の最も有名な競馬レース）にはまだ行ったことはありません。いつかは訪れたいですね」（サイモン）
サイモン自身はまだ馬を保有いないが、この日も馬券を購入して競馬を楽しんだとか。このままアンバサダーとしてロンジンとの関係が続けば、馬主サイモンの競争馬が競馬場を駆ける日もそんなに遠くないのかもしれない。
