◆お祝いするなら、金をくれ？熱い男イアン・サマーハルダー、誕生日プレゼントの代わりと、ファンに寄付募る
「ヴァンパイア・ダイアリーズ」でヴァンパイアのデイモンを演じているイアン・サマーハルダーが、12月８日、35歳の誕生日を迎えた。
イアンは「ヴァンパイア・ダイアリーズ」「LOST」など、人気ドラマのイケメンスターという顔に加え、環境問題に対し熱心に取り組む活動家としても知られている。熱い男イアンは、自身の誕生日にも豪華な贈り物は一切不要と、ファンにいっぷう変わった贈り物をお願いしている。なんと、イアンの年齢と同じ額を寄付して欲しいというのだ。
イアンが設立した、環境問題などに取り組むチャリティ団体、イアン・サマーハルダー基金のホームページには次のようなコメントが掲載されている。「35歳の誕生日を前に、僕はちょっとした目標を立てました。考えてみてください、地球上の70億人のうち100万人が、わずか35ドルのお金をイアン・サマーハルダー基金に寄付してくれたとします。僕らは夢を見ることを止め、実際に地球を変えることが出来るでしょう」
イアンは、これまでファンから受け取ってきた、物品によるプレゼントを有難く思ってはいるものの、物品、そして梱包や発送の手間と無駄を考えると胸が張り裂けそうになると、ツライ気持ちも告白。物質的な無駄をなくし、代わりに寄付金を贈ってもらえば、地球を救うためにも一石二鳥というのがイアンの考えなのだ。
