「CSI: ベガス」でラスベガス科学捜査研究所の捜査官アリー・ラジャーン役を演じているマンディープ・ディロンが、米エンタメサイトのインタビューに答えている。
マンディープは英ハートフォードシャー州生まれ。「CSI: ベガス」で初めて彼女を知った人も少なくないかもしれないが、ネットフリックスの「After Life/アフター・ライフ」はじめ、数々の話題シリーズに出演する注目の女優の一人だ。
「CSI: ベガス」で演じるアリー・ラジャーンは英国訛りがトレードマーク。
「長年続いている『CSI』シリーズに新しい風を吹き込めたと考えています。英国人としての誇りを大切に、国民性は忘れずにいたいですね」
英国を中心に活躍してきたマンディープにとって、「CSI: ベガス」は米国お披露目の場。英国訛りを通せることは、自分らしさを見せるために好都合と言ってよいだろう。
「CSI: ベガス」を引っ張るのは、マージ・ヘルゲンバーガーやポーラ・ニューサムらベテランたち。まだ34歳のマンディープはフレッシュさを作品に持ち込むことを意識しているのだとか。
「アリーを通して、若さや自由なスピリットを感じていただけたらと思います」
では、アリー役からマンディープは何を得たのだろう?
「アリーが私にくれたもの、それは共感力だと思います。世の中には、皆の正義のために日々、犯罪と向き合っている人たちがいると実感できました。私にとって、本当に有難い経験です。アリーが世にはびこる不正に目を開かせてくれた。これからも自分の人生において、また身の回りの人たちのために出来ることがあれば、お手伝いしたいと思います」
「CSI: ベガス」出演を通し正義の一員となることで、改めて犯罪と向き合う彼らに感謝しているというのだ。
最近ではミュージシャンとしての活動も始めたマンディープ、その感性の鋭さはまさにアーティストそのもの。豊かな才能を生かし、これからも多方面で活躍しそうだ。
