海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.457　 「BONES ―骨は語る―」のエミリー・デシャネル、「私は燃え尽きた」

2005年から12シーズン続いたクライムサスペンス・シリーズ「BONES ―骨は語る―」で、主役の法人類学者ボーンズこと、テンペランス・ブレナンを演じたエミリー・デシャネルが、米エンタメサイトのインタビューに答えた。ロングランシリーズ終了から５年が過ぎた今だから話せる思いを明かしている。
 
「私は燃え尽きた」
 
エミリーの正直な気持ちだろう。主演シリーズが12シーズンのロングラン。起きている時間の大半を、撮影スタジオで過ごす生活が12年続いた。精神的にも、主演として大きなプレッシャーを抱えていたはず。そんな生活から解放され、エミリーが「燃え尽きた」のも無理はない。
 
「『BONES ―骨は語る―』が終わって、またあんな生活には戻れないと思った。少し時間が欲しかったの、子供と一緒の時間がね。女優活動を再開するのに２年かかったのよ」 エミリーは、本作出演中の2010年に俳優のデヴィッド・ホーンズビーと結婚。2子を授かった。仕事には恵まれたが、願うような家庭人にはなれなかった日々、その空白を埋める気持ちもあった。
 
「ラッキーなことに、私は頼まれた仕事を全部引き受けなきゃならないほど生活に困っていない。夫も働いているし。私は恵まれた人生を送っていると言えるんでしょうね」 昔のエミリーからは想像もできないコメントかもしれない。本作が成功するまでは、常に仕事に飢えた、ハリウッドその他大勢の女優の一人だったからだ。
 
「（これからは）一つの仕事にどんな意味があるのか吟味したいの。それに家族とは離れたくない。今は仕事を選ぶ前に、あれこれ考えるようになった」 仕事と同じくらい、家族が大事。それに一度演じた仕事を繰り返すことも眼中にないらしい。「BONES ―骨は語る―」は今や、遠き良き思い出だ。今年はネットフリックスのミニシリーズ「Devil in Ohio」で、自身の信念に基づき行動する医師を好演した。
 
これからも「さまざまな仕事に興味を持ち、自分自身を成長させたい。そして女優としても新しい一面に挑戦したい」と気持ちは前向き。心身ともに成熟し、エミリーは今、人生最高の時を迎えている。
