海外ドラマ最新レポート Vol.363　 「S.W.A.T.」のシェマー・ムーア　ドはまりしている遊びとは?

「S.W.A.T.」でS.W.A.T.チームのリーダー、ホンドーを演じるシェマー・ムーア。「クリミナル・マインド」でも正義漢の顔と時にチラリと見せる無邪気さがファンに愛された人気者だ。鍛えられた肉体がシェマーのトレードマークであり、自慢の愛車をインスタグラムで披露する車好きとしても知られている。しかし、インスタをフォローしているファンなら、シェマーにはもう一つドはまりしている趣味があると知っているだろう。それは米国の昔ながらの遊び、コーンホールだ。
 
日本ではなじみのない遊びだが、ルールは簡単。とうもろこし（コーン）の種をつめた袋を傾斜ボードに向かって投げ、穴（ホール）に入った得点で競う。米国では家族や友人の集まりで楽しまれているだけでなく、競技としてプロリーグも発足している。マッチョで車好き、そんな男性らしい趣味を持つシェマーと、牧歌的なコーンホールはなんともミスマッチ。けれど当のシェマーはコーンホールに本気で入れ込んでいるらしい。
 
「S.W.A.T.」の撮影休みには、自宅にて毎週のようにコーンホール大会を主催。タン役のデヴィッド・リムら共演者やスタッフだけでなく、トッププロ選手を招いて本格的に開催している。TVのトーク番組に出演したシェマーはコーンホールについて、「僕の仲間内じゃ、もう遊びと言えないね。自宅にコーンホールの台を設置して、デヴィッドや他の俳優仲間とプレーしている」と告白。勝者には、スーパーボウルのチャンピオンリングを模した「カーサ・デル・シャム（シェマーの家）」なる指輪が贈呈されると明かした。
 
先ごろはデヴィッドらと共にお揃いのユニフォームで一般の大会にも出場。26チーム中2位の成績だったとか。シェマーはインスタで「最高の時間を過ごせた」と大はしゃぎのコメントを残している。コロナ禍のパンデミック中に始めたというコーンホール。シェマーは人生のいかなる時にも楽しみを見つけ出す達人なのだ。
