ある屋敷の敷地内で男の遺体が発見された。男は屋敷の2階の窓から放り投げられ死亡したものと思われた。彼の身元はアラン・フォスター。建築家で数か月前に屋敷を購入し、リフォーム予定だった。警備会社に確認したところ、前夜から保安官代理が駆けつけるまで、警備システムは正常に作動しており、何者かが侵入した形跡はなかった。保安官代理の話によると、この屋敷には、屋敷の最初の持ち主で建築主のウォルター・ベックワースのお化けが出るという噂があった。
