スパドラ！最新ＵＳレポート Vol.503：「クリミナル・マインド」のジョー・マンテーニャ、いつか旅したいのは「日本！」

CriminalMinds_yr9_us250_0321.jpg「クリミナル・マインド」のジョー・マンテーニャが、地元シカゴの新聞のインタビューに応じ、旅についての思い出や行きたい場所などを語っている。

俳優という仕事柄、撮影や舞台公演で世界中を訪れたというジョー。思い出に残っているのも、1974年から75年にかけて公演で訪れたヨーロッパだという。

「（公演で）僕らはオランダ、ベルギー、イギリス、そしてドイツを回った。1975年になって、僕と妻は僕らのルーツを探すような旅をしてみようということになった。そして巡り会えたのが、イタリアに住む僕の親族だった。僕は祖父からイタリアへ行って、親族と会ってきてくれと頼まれていたんだよ。そこで初めてイタリアのいとこたちと出会ったわけさ。それからずっと仲良くしてるよ。数えきれないくらいイタリアに行ってるし、彼らがアメリカにやって来たこともある。そして妻も同じことをしたよ。妻の出自はチェコスロバキアなんだけど、やはり僕らはチェコスロバキアに行って、彼女のルーツ探しをした。僕がイタリアで経験したようなことを、チェコスロバキアでも経験したんだ」（チェコスロバキアは旅行当時の国名）

ヨーロッパについては馴染みのあるジョーだが、意外にもあの世界的なバケーションの地には行ったことがないとか。

「僕と妻はたくさん旅をしたけれども、ハワイには行ったことがないんだ。妻のバケットリスト（死ぬまでにしたいこと）の一つがハワイに行くことなんだよね。それと日本だ！僕が考える最高の旅プランは、僕らの住んでいるカリフォルニアから、ハワイを通り、それから日本に行くこと。韓国に寄るかもしれないね。最高じゃないか。アジアについては、僕らはほとんど未体験なんだ」

ハワイからアジアへの足掛かりとして、まず日本に行きたいというジョー。しかし、これにはちょっとした下ごころがあるようだ。

「僕らの番組は日本で大人気なんだよ。マシュー（・グレイ・ギュブラー）は何度も日本を訪問しているけれど、聞いた話じゃ、彼は日本ではまるでビートルズの一員みたいに扱われるらしいんだ」

ジョー夫妻が日本を訪れるのは間違いなさそう。その際には、ビートルズ気分は難しくても、日本のおもてなし文化を満喫してほしいものだ。
