映画『世界にひとつのプレイブック』『アメリカン・スナイパー』ではアカデミー賞主演男優賞のノミネートを受けた、ブラッドリー・クーパーが、初めてTVドラマシリーズの製作総指揮に挑戦した「リミットレス」。この「リミットレス」は、2011年に公開、ブラッドリーが主演した映画『リミットレス』のTV版だ。その「リミットレス」の主演に、ブラッドリー自身が選んだのが、ジェイク・マクドーマン。実はブラッドリーとジェイクは、かつて『アメリカン・スナイパー』で共演した仲だった。
「『アメリカン・スナイパー』で、僕らは得難い経験の日々を過ごしていた」と、当時を回顧するブラッドリー。「確かに」と、気心知れた仲らしく短い言葉でジェイクも同意する。二人は撮影を通して、固い絆で結ばれた親友。ハリウッド的な言い回しをすれば“ブロマンス”（男性同士の仲の良い関係）だ。
『アメリカン・スナイパー』でジェイクの仕事ぶり、そして人間性を間近で観察したブラッドリーはあることに気づいていた。ジェイクには、TVシリーズで主演するのに必要な“我慢強さ”が備わっていると。「彼は、この厳しい仕事をやってのける強さを持っている、誰にも務まる仕事じゃないからね」と、ブラッドリーはジェイクを「リミットレス」主演に据えた理由を明かす。
これまで「シェイムレス 俺っちに恥はない」や「GREEK～ときめき★キャンパスライフ」など数々のTVシリーズに出演してきたジェイクにとっても、キツイ仕事となるのは分かっていた。「（撮影の）スピードが速くて、1シーズン22話だから仕事量も多い。いろんな意味でプロスポーツ選手になった気分だった」と、ジェイクも独特の表現でTVシリーズの過酷さを語る。
「リミットレス」は終了したが、ジェイクはブラッドリーの期待に十分応えたに違いない。信頼で結ばれた二人の“ブロマンス”はこれからも続くことになりそうだ。
