スパドラ！最新ＵＳレポート Vol.406：「スタートレック」、50周年を記念して大規模な展示会が今夏開催　故レナード・ニモイの作品も

近年の再映画化、さらに来年には新TVシリーズの放送が決定し、従来のファンに加え、新たなファンも獲得している人気SFシリーズ「スタートレック」。最初のTV放送から50周年にあたる、今年、大規模な展示会「Star Trek : 50 Artists, 50 Years」が開催されることが分かった。
 
この展示会では、2015年2月27日に逝去したレナード・ニモイの作品を特別展示。「宇宙大作戦／スタートレック」のバルカン人スポック役で一躍人気者となったレナードは、俳優としての顔だけでなく、アーティストとしての顔も持ち合わせていたという。
 
注目を浴びそうな一枚が、レナード自身の手を撮影した作品。バルカン式の挨拶を表したもので、「スタートレック」のユニフォーム色である赤、青、黄色が模されている。担当した学芸員は「ニモイ氏は自分の手の写真を撮影していました。私たちは、彼と一緒にその写真を使ってマルチカラー版を製作したのです」
 
学芸員は、レナードが展示会について非常に協力的であったと回想。「私たちは彼と作品を手掛けていましたが、彼の病気の進行は早かった。彼が亡くなって二週間後に、スーザン夫人に手伝っていただき完成させました」と話している。
 
レナードの作品に加え、展示会には「スタートレック」を愛するアーティストたちによる、「スタートレック」をテーマにした、絵画、彫刻など合計53のアート作品が並ぶ。
 
その参加アーティストの一人、ジョシュア・バディックは展示会に向けポスターを製作。「僕と妻は『スタートレック』の中でもレナード・ニモイの大ファンでした。彼が亡くなったと知った時は、打ちのめされた気持ちでしたが、それだけこの作品は僕にとって大きな意味のある一枚となりました」とコメントしている。
 
「Star Trek : 50 Artists, 50 Years」展は、7月21日から24日にかけて米サンディエゴで開催される、エンタメの祭典「コミコン」でお披露目、米ラスベガスやカナダ、イギリスでも巡回展示が行われる。また、コミコン以降は、オフィシャルサイトStarTrek.comでもデジタル閲覧が可能になる。展示会を主催する米CBSは、巡回展示終了後、アート作品のオークション販売を予定しているという。
