「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」のレナードの父親役に、ジャド・ハーシュがキャスティングされたことが明らかになった。
ジャドは、「NUMBERS 天才数学者の事件ファイル」「ダメージ」で、海外ドラマファンにもおなじみ。米国では、主演したシットコム「Taxi(原題)」で、1981年、1983年に2度エミー賞コメディ部門主演男優賞を受賞するなど、実力、知名度ともに抜群のベテラン俳優だ。
ジャドを父親役に望んだのは、なんとレナードを演じるジョニー・ガレッキ当人。ジョニーは先日、あるTV番組収録でジャドに会った際、自分から声を掛けたのだと言う。
「ジャドは僕のヒーローだったし、（製作総指揮の）チャック・ロリーやビル・プラディにとっても憧れの存在だと知っていた。だから僕は彼を隅に追いつめ、逃げられなくしてから、僕の父親役を演じてくれと頼み込んだのさ」（ジョニー）
これほどジョニーが懇願したのは、ジャドへの強い思い入れがあったから。実は「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」のパイロット版を撮影した時、ジョニーはジャドが「Taxi(原題)」で演じたキャラクター、アレックスをイメージして、レナードの役作りをしたのだとか。つまり、レナードのキャラクターを生み出したという意味では、ジャドはレナードの父親そのものなのだ。
これまでの放送では、レナードの父親は愛情表現が苦手な人類学者と紹介。レナードの母親ビバリー（クリスティン・バランスキー）に、ウエイトレスと浮気したのがバレ、離婚に至ったと描かれていた。
ジャドの出演は、現在米で放送中のシーズン９の予定。レナード、ビバリーとの再会にどんなハプニングが起きるのか、ファンにとっては待ちきれないエピソードになりそうだ。
