「クリミナル・マインド」で、ベテランプロファイラーのロッシを演じているジョー・マンテーニャが、米国で放送中のシーズン11第3話（「’Til Death Do Us Part」）のエピソード監督をつとめた。
今年68歳になるジョーは、米TVで活躍する俳優の中でもトップクラスの出演キャリアを誇っている。これまでに出演した映画は『ゴッドファーザー PART III』（フランシス・コッポラ監督）、『バグジー』（バリー・レヴィンソン監督）、『セレブリティ』（ウッディ・アレン監督）など。これらの作品での“巨匠”たちとの出会いはジョーの誇りでもある。「世界で最も偉大な監督たちと仕事をしてきた。とても幸せなことだよ」
そのジョーは、出演する「クリミナル・マインド」で、シーズン９から毎シーズン1話ずつエピソードを監督している。大ベテランの俳優なれど、監督業はまた別。「彼ら（巨匠たち）から得たものを、少しでも生かすことができれば」とコメントに真面目な人柄がにじむ。
ジョーが気合いを入れる一方で、共演者はリラックスな様子。「ジョーと一緒にいると、彼がいかに凄い俳優であるか、忘れてしまいそうになるよ。とても落ち着いていて、プロフェッショナル、本当に皆に愛されているんだ。その彼が監督をやるんだから、僕らは大歓迎だよ」と、手放しで喜ぶのは、モーガン役のシェマー・ムーア。「ジョーは役者として、言われたことをやってきたからね。今度は自分がメガホンを取って、楽しむつもりなんじゃないかな。僕も彼に言われたことを何でもやるつもりだ。彼の元でやれるなんて、仕事に来るのが楽しくなるよ！」と、ジョーに忠誠を誓っている。
