先ごろ、初来日を果たした英国のウィリアム王子と、第二子の出産を４月に控える妻のキャサリン妃が、米ドラマ「ONE TREE HILL」の大ファンだったことが分かった。
「ONE TREE HILL」クリエーターのマーク・シュワーンが明かしたもので、「『ONE TREE HILL』シーズン４の頃に、ウィルとケイト（夫妻の愛称）が番組の大ファンと聞いた」という。
世界中から愛される英王子夫妻が“大ファン”と知り、気を良くしないわけがない。シュワーンは「ずっと番組を見てくれてたらしいんだ。僕はそれを聞いて、『二人にDVDのボックスセットや番組グッズを送ってみよう』って話したものさ」
シュワーンの最新作は、全米で3月15日から放送がスタートした、新ドラマ「THE ROYALS」。英国王室を舞台に、架空の王室メンバーが繰り広げる愛憎劇を描くもので、英国女王をエリザベス・ハーレイ（「ゴシップガール」）が演じるという。シュワーンは、この新ドラマについても、ウィリアム王子とキャサリン妃がファンになってくれることを熱望している。「番組が英国王室を批判していると思われたらショックだよ。僕は王室の崇拝者だからね。それはぜひ分かっていて欲しいんだ。ロンドンを訪れるのが好きだし、歴史を見聞するのも好き。いつも魅了されてしまうよ」
「ONE TREE HILL」を愛する、ウィリアム王子とキャサリン妃。新ドラマも同様に気に入ってもらえたなら、シュワーンにとって大成功と言えるのかもしれない。
