今年７月に、ライフスタイル提案サイト「プリザーブ」（preserve.us）を立ち上げた、「ゴシップガール」のブレイク・ライブリー。２年前の結婚以降も映画、高級ブランドのイメージモデルとしての活動など多忙な毎日を送るブレイクだが、実は「最も自分を表現できる場」として「プリザーブ」の運営に情熱を燃やしているという。
ブレイクは「ゴシップガール」の大ヒットで成し遂げた気持ちはあるのだろうか、以前から女優業以外の仕事に興味があることを口にしていた。「自分で何をやりたいかは分かっていたんだけど、具体的にどの仕事と決めることができなかったのよ。パーティープラニングやインテリアデザイン、ファッションなんかを考えてたけど、一つの業種に限られたくなかったから」。やがて、その気持ちを達成するには、自分で何かを起こすしかないと考えるようになった。「プリザーブ」の構想は「ゴシップガール」の撮影終了時から始まっていたという。
人気若手女優の起業といっても、どこまで本当にかかわっているのか？と思われてしまいがちだが、実際にブレイクはサイトの代表者の立場にあるだけでなく、全ての作業にかかわっている。「私はCEOというより、むしろクリエイティブ・ディレクターであるといえるかもしれないわね。おまけにアシスタントの仕事だって引き受けてるのよ」。撮影中はモデルの休憩時に水を渡す雑用から、フォトグラファーにコンセプトを伝えるディレクターとしての仕事、さらにメディア対応、資金集めもブレイクの役目だ。「（起業は）思ったより大変」と身を持って実感している。
それでもブレイクにとって「プリザーブ」は、「私の赤ちゃん」と例えるくらい宝物であり、何よりやりがいのある仕事であるらしい。「映画産業の従業員（女優）と比べて、自分で自分の運命をコントロールできるのは大きな違いね。最初から最後まで自分が参加できるんだもの、クリエイティブな意味でとても満足しているのよ」
