「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」の主役シェルドンを演じるジム・パーソンズが、米の人気コメディ番組「サタデー・ナイト・ライブ」で、初のホスト役を務めた。
「サタデー・ナイト・ライブ」のホスト役と言えば、米ショービジネス界で実力と人気を備えたスーパースターのみに許される、夢の大役。39シーズン目となる「サタデー・ナイト・ライブ」今シーズンは、マイリー・サイラスやブルース・ウィリス、ケリー・ワシントンなどが、この大役に挑戦している。
コントで構成される90分のコメディ番組とあって、ホスト役はドタバタからシュールまで多様なお笑い演技に加え、物まねを要求されることが多い。今回、ジムが物まねに挑んだのは、トリノとバンクーバー五輪の男子フィギュアスケーター、ジョニー・ウィアー。同性愛者で知られ、エキセントリックなスタイルを貫くジョニーは、ソチ五輪にコメンテーターとして現地入り。真っ赤なブレザーにフルメーキャップでTV出演し、注目を浴びたばかりだ。
コントの中で、ジョニーになりきったジムは、ショッキングピンクのジャケットに黒のレザーパンツというド派手な衣装。女性コメディアン扮する、エレン・デジェネレス（今年のアカデミー賞授賞式司会者）のトーク番組「エレンの部屋」にジョニーが登場するという設定の元、物まねのジョニーとエレンがお笑いコントを繰り広げた。
放送後には、本物ジョニーが「ジムがコントの中で着けていたネックレスが欲しい」とツイート。当人だけに自分の物まねの評価は難しかったのかもしれないが、少なくともジョニー風の衣装については及第点だったようだ。
ジムは「サタデー・ナイト・ライブ」の大役に続いて、ジュリア・ロバーツ、マット・ボマーらと共演する話題のHBO映画『The Normal Heart』の放送日が、米で5月25日に決定した。「ビッグバン★セオリー ギークなボクらの恋愛法則」シーズン７も絶好調。2014年、ジムの快進撃はますます続きそうだ。
