◆「ゴシップガール」ジェシカ・ゾア、Ｒ＆Ｂのスーパースター、アッシャーにオークションで競り負ける
「ゴシップガール」のジェシカ・ゾアが、Ｒ＆Ｂのスーパースター、アッシャーとゴールデンドゥードルの子犬をめぐって、チャリティーオークションで熱い競り合いを繰り広げたと、米アス・ウィークリー誌のオンライン版が伝えた。最終的に、アッシャーがジェシカを1000ドル差で振り切り、子犬を1万2000ドル（約96万円）で競り落とした。
二人が出席していたのは、10月25日、ＮＹで開催された「ペンシルズ・オブ・プロミス」のファンドレージング・パーティ。「ペンシルズ・オブ・プロミス」は発展途上国に学校を設立するのが目的で設立された非営利団体だ。セレブリティの間で支持が高く、ジャスティン・ビーバーも後援者の一人という。
アッシャーは、そのジャスティンの先輩的存在で、昨年も子犬を狙って同オークションで手を挙げながも、競り負けた。先輩の意地と雪辱の思いを胸に挑んだスーパースターに、ジェシカの粘りも通用しなかったようだ。
年越しの願いがかない、よほど嬉しかったのか、アッシャーは子犬に自分の姓（レイモンド）を与え、ポピー・レイモンドと名づけたという。来年は、ジェシカが雪辱する番になるのだろうか。同誌は、アッシャーに次点で負けたものの、チャリティのために１万1000ドルまで提供しようとしたジェシカに対し、「感動的」と、その太っ腹ぶりをたたえている。
