火災現場を偶然通り掛かったピーターは燃え盛る家からジェナ・アップルビーを救出する。焼け跡から男性の遺体が発見され、養子と生みの親との再会を支援していたベンと分かる。養子だったジェナは生みの親との再会を望んでいたのだ。検死の結果、ベンに頭を殴られた痕があったことからミーガンは他殺と断定する。
